Job Details: Assists in coordinating and directing the daily operations and activities of assigned area.  Performs various laboratory tests and procedures and reports results.  Works effectively with others in the implementation of patient care activities through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Performs special studies involving a high degree of skills in "Trouble Shooting" of Transfusion Services procedures.  Receives and processes requests for blood within the hospital.  Performs blood tests; oversees all aspects of blood testing, storage and delivery. Types blood and screens for antibodies.  Supports transfusion therapy. Investigates any adverse reaction due to transfusion and performs specialized test to identify cause of reaction.  Provides information to other medical staff as needed.  Records and reports clinical test results; routes laboratory reports to patient's area as needed. REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: Graduate of an approved medical technology program.  Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) preferred. Thirty-six (36) months experience as Medical Technologist.  Regulatory Compliance: Experience designing programs to ensure compliance with CAP, State, and other regulatory requirements. Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Exhibits thorough knowledge of principals and technical skills required to implement lab services demonstrated through practices of blood/specimen preparation, testing and interpretation.  Demonstrated ability to lead and direct.  Demonstrates excellent organization and prioritizing skills.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively/professionally with hospital staff, patients, family, visitors, and physicians under routine and stressful situations.  Demonstrates excellent written, computer and oral communication skills.  Proficient with Internet, and Microsoft Office software (word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and database). LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:  Tennessee licensure as Medical Technologist.  Must obtain Supervisor's license within one (1) year of assignment.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Exposure to infectious agents; Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, sitting and reaching to perform tests and operate equipment; Wrist and digital dexterity to perform lab tests and data entry.  Concentration, color recognition and attention to detail are necessary to detect changes in specimens and perform required tests.
